Mazda RX8 Charity Drive
|
On 10 January 2009, 32 children participated in a charity drive organised by a group of Mazda RX8 drivers. A total of 19 cars from the "RX-8 Club Singapore" arrived and after a briefing by the club member Mr Jasper Chong, the children enthusiastically boarded the sports cars for their ride to Orchard Cineleisure. What added to their excitement was the media coverage that was present to report on the charity drive.
After a sumptuous lunch at KFC, the children were also treated to the screening of the movie "Bedtime Stories" and were later driven back to the centre by the organisers. Back at our centre, the children received a folder containing school supplies, a practical and thoughtful gift from club members Amy and Jasper, which they could use given that the school term has just started.
For the children, it was a rare experience to be riding in a sports car and likely to be a once in a lifetime experience. The time and effort spent by the club members who so selflessly took time to spend a weekend with the children also left many wonderful memories for the children.
We also thank the generosity of Hankook Tyres and Fuji Motorsports who donated $500 to our centre, in conjunction with Agip oils. The efforts of the club members and time spent with the children were much appreciated and we look forward to more of such collaborations!

Family Day Block Party 2008
|
Covenant Family Service Centre and Aljunied Hougang Zone 1 Resident's Committee (RC) jointly organised a Family Day for residents living in the area on 22 June 2008. Mr Yeo Guat Kwang (MP for Aljunied GRC) was invited to be the guest of honour for the event.
Mr Yeo gave a short speech to welcome the residents to the block party. The residents were also entertained with a magic performance and an Indian dance which was put up by one of the families receiving assistance from our Centre.
The residents both young and old also participated with great enthusiasm at the 6 exciting and interesting game booths set up by volunteers. On top of that, the children in the neighbourhood were treated to helium filled balloons and a free art and craft session. They were taught how to make creative animal and flower crafts out of recycled materials. Our volunteers comprise of cell group members from the Paya Lebar Methodist Church (PLMC) and student groups from St Nicholas Girls' School and Anglo Chinese Junior College.
Our Centre also set up 2 exhibition booths, one to publicise the services that the Centre provides and the other to inform and educate the public about the phenomenon of "Computer Addiction" among teenagers. At the end of the event many parents signed up for the parent discussion group offered by the FSC to help parents cope with this worrying trend. The Work Care Agent (a project of the Aljunied GRC) also set up a booth at the event to help residents who requires job matching services.
Towards the end of the event, there was a lucky draw and several of the residents walked away with attractive prizes sponsored by the RC. Residents also went home delighted with a good assortment of prizes from the game booths, an attractive goodie bag and refreshments which were generously sponsored by the National Enviroment Agency (NEA) and RC respectively.
This event would not have been a success without the help of the RC and all volunteers, and of course the active participation of all who took part in the event! |

Covenant FSC Family Bonding Activity - The Amazing Race
|
11 families participated in an Amazing Race in June 2008 where they raced around different stations and played a series of station games. Volunteers helped out with logistics and also manned the station games such as obstacle course and water bomb. Some volunteers also participated by joining the families in the amazing race.
At the end of the race, families gathered back in teams to compete against each other to form the longest line.. the volunteers enthusiastically joined in to compete with the families. Next up, the children were tasked to dress up their parents. They later explained the character that their parents had assumed. Some popular characters were the Statue of Liberty, a magician and a fairy godmother.
The families later enjoyed a sumptuous lunch and were awarded prizes for their enthusiastic participation in the games.
The event would not have been a success without the help of our volunteers. It would not have been possible also without the participation of our families. Well done! |
